Justice For Floyd, Not Rehiring Cops with Questionable Records

Yesterday Derek Chauvin was found guilty on all 3 counts of murder. He faces the rest of his life in prison if given the maximum sentences. As relieved as everyone was yesterday, there was also a feeling of disbelief. We saw this man last summer, literally kill another human. In high-definition. And there was still a chance that he could get away with it? That's because we know that there is a disproportionate level of justice being served to law enforcement when they go outside of their given lawful bounds.

This week we found out about the 25-year old Fairfax County police officer who is accused of falsifying reasons to pull people over, stealing drugs from police property, and planting drugs on innocent people. These are the only things he's been accused of so far, but who knows what else he's done while he was an officer of the law. If that wasn't bad enough, he resigned from Fairfax County in May 2020 and was hired by the Brevard County Sheriff's Office in Florida in August 2020.

I have heard of a few instances in regards to cops who are being investigated in one county being hired in another. There are pretty stringent background checks in the D.C. area for people who are contracted with the government. Even if you aren't, most employers throughout the nation do thorough background checks. So why are there no background checks being done by these police departments? Or are the background checks just being overlooked? The outcome is that officers with records of being unjust are being placed back into the streets to possibly harass, detain, frame, and arrest innocent people. How do we put an end to this?
